Purity

July 17, 1997

No silent prayer this week - we just jumped right in.

There was much discussion of purity vs. prudishness. Comparing outward mortal affectations of purity vs. action from a spiritual basis of purity. One member shared that he viewed purity as an attribute of Truth - Truth in action, so to speak. Another member spoke of purity from the viewpoint how we see others; seeing in Science the perfect man.

With all this talk of self-knowledge and purifying of thought, conversation naturally led into discussion of baptism. Baptism - now there's a tuffy. Whoever came up with the slogan "no pain, no gain" must have been going through a baptism experience. It's always nice to know that what seems to be a tough human experience may be a necessary path to travel to help us yield to the divine.

We ended the meeting by reciting together the 6th tenet (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, pg. 497:24).
